Researchers at Harvard University and University of Vermont in the US They have developed a new algorithm that checks photos on Instagram to diagnose depression and other mental illnesses at an early stage.

They believe that those who publish darker gray or colored in Instagram images are more likely to be depressed compared to those who upload images of vibrant colors.

The researchers examined 170 service workers Amazon Mechanical Turk who had accounts of Instagram. All participants completed a questionnaire, which also included a survey of standard clinical depression. They were also asked to share pictures of your Instagram account.
The researchers selected about 100 images of each participant and asked them to rate them on a scale from 0 to 5 depending on how interesting, sad or happy the pictures looked, ‘Tech Times reported.
The study also ranks the photos based on saturation, hue, and the number of faces each image had.
The researchers found that decreasing the saturation and brightness, tone and predicted increased depression.
Researchers also found depressed people and not use filters depressed differently. Depressed people were less likely to use filters.
The algorithm was able to identify depression with a success rate of 70 percent, the researchers said.
