Many people around the world think that 120 over 80 is normal blood pressure, and if your blood pressure is higher than their immediate need to see a cardiologist. Well, this no longer applies!
The CES Association issued new guidelines under which normal pressure to 140 systolic (the top number in a blood pressure measurement) and 90 diastolic (bottom number).
However, this does not apply to people with diabetes, where the limit is 130 over 80, as in the older population.
Previously it was thought that if the blood pressure of a person is 139 over 89 that person is already in a state of hypertension and that this person needs to take medication immediately in order to avoid the increased risk of heart attack or stroke.
