is a problem that is swept under the carpet during most of the year, with the cold months of winter, spring and autumn cold allowing you to cover up and forget all about them. But as summer approaches, you begin to sweat, and that’s not just because of the heat.
Cankles, an unfortunate shortening of the two words “calf” and “ankles” sums up the situation rather succinctly. In short, “cankles” are the fat ankles, which occur when the body builds up too much weight in that area and makes it a difficult time working out at its end legs and feet begin.
Although not exactly life threatening, cankles can put a real damper on the enjoyment of those long summer days. Of course, you can hide behind a pair of long pants and boots during the colder months, but when things start to heat and dust of shorts and flip flops, you’re bound to face the truth: ankles have a run for it.
Fortunately, it need not be so. While even the thinnest women may have problems with cankles, there are many things you can do to get rid of them and wear flip flops like a pro. Here are some tips to help you do just that!
1. Control your weight
It may seem like a no-brainer, but if you are having problems with your weight on the other hand, it is very likely that some of that weight also accumulate around the ankles. You get your weight under control generally will help your body to more evenly distribute the fat reserves, and can often help bring the heel cankles (pun intended!).
There are a number of ways to do this, and the more things the more likely shed the pounds and keep it that way. Getting rid of grains, especially wheat and gluten rich cereals (such as barley and rye), and keep your consumption of other grains such as oats or corn to a minimum. Get plenty of vegetables and fruits, and ensure that you are eating a wide range of fresh, whole foods.
Then be sure to exercise regularly, at least 30 minutes a day, and introduce some high intensity training ( Interview ) or weight-bearing exercises at least twice a week to build muscle and fat knock out. Besides this, make a point of movement as much as possible throughout the day. Doing so will ensure that your metabolism stays constantly running smoothly and blood continues to flow unhindered.
2. Keeping up with fluids
According to some experts, the cankle training can often be the result of fluid retention. This can occur due to high sodium intake, forcing the body to retain water it does have swell and in some areas as a result. It may also be the result of pregnancy, which can impede blood circulation and stimulate accumulate around the ankles.
So, how do you keep the fluids they belong? To begin with, stay away from foods high in sodium, particularly products processed snacks and fast foods. Then feed your body fluids all day, get plenty of water and avoid sodas and drinks like the plague . Finally, if you are pregnant, consider talking to your doctor about fluid retention and how to safely work their way around the issue.
3. Look at drug
Certain medications, including antidepressants, blood pressure drugs and prescription drugs that affect hormone production (including birth control pills) can all run riot with the ankles of a lady. The only way to know if your medications are sending unwanted bulk ankles is think back to when you started taking these drugs. Do cankles start around that time? If so, you may want to talk to your doctor about whether you can switch to a similar drug without unwanted side effects. Better yet, clean your diet and your lifestyle, and you probably do not need to take medication at all!
4. Do some calf raises
There are a lot of exercises specific muscles that can be made to work directly on the annoying thick ankles. One of the best exercises for this is calf raises. To do this, stand about a foot away from a wall, the position of your feet directly below the hips, and place one of your palms on the wall. Keeping your legs straight, slowly raise yourself on your toes, hold for a second, then slowly lower back to the floor and repeat.
