What a pain in the butt: how to get rid of hemorrhoids quickly

Many of us lead increasingly sedentary lifestyles, eat all kinds of unhealthy foods or do not exercise enough. All these things, and more, can cause hemorrhoids, a painful and unpleasant condition. There are more than 1 million new cases per year in the United States alone.

If you suffer from this distressing health problem, you are probably wondering how to quickly get rid of hemorrhoids. The good news is that with careful treatment, you may be able to treat them yourself at home, and they should disappear within a few days. Even so, there are many ways you can make things easier until you recover.

What are hemorrhoids?

Hemorrhoids are inflamed or inflamed blood vessels inside or outside your anus. They are caused by increased pressure in the rectal area. This may be the result, among other things, of being overweight, chronic constipation or diarrhea, anal sex and the last stages of pregnancy.

External hemorrhoids are the worst of the two, in general. They occur on the outside of your anus, and are usually painful. They can also cause itching and burning. In some cases, they may bleed, most often when cleaned.

Internal hemorrhoids are a little more difficult to diagnose. They are inside the anus, although if they are particularly close to the exit or are particularly large, they can occasionally stand out when you go to the bathroom. The most common symptom is bright, fresh red blood in your poop or when it is cleaned. In general, they do not cause much pain.

Should you see a doctor?

In most cases, hemorrhoids will pass by themselves within two to three days, especially if you treat them with care. However, it is never a bad idea to consult your doctor if you start bleeding from the rectum, especially if it has never happened before. At the very least, they can reassure you because it is not one of the other conditions that can cause rectal bleeding, such as colon, anal or rectal cancer.

If the bright red blood changes to a darker red color, if the hemorrhoid is still there after a week, or if your symptoms get worse despite your efforts to treat it yourself, you should definitely talk to your doctor.

Home remedies for hemorrhoids

There are several things you can do to help relieve the pain and itching caused by external hemorrhoids, and try to make them go away sooner rather than later.

Keep clean

First of all, you must ensure that the hemorrhoid and the surrounding area are as clean as possible to avoid irritation and infections. Touching them can be very painful, so make sure you are friendly. Wash the affected area with a soft cloth or a damp cloth, mild soap and warm water. Carefully dry it with extra soft toilet paper or a different clean wipe.

Soak it in warm water

Soaking the hemorrhoid in warm water will relieve the pain a little and help it heal. You can use your bathroom at home or a sitz bath, which is designed to fit over the top of a toilet. Fill the bathroom with a few centimeters of warm water and sit in it for about twenty minutes.

There are many things that you can put in the water to help the healing process, such as chamomile, Epsom salt or table salt. Do this after defecation, and if you have time, sometimes more during the day. Be sure to gently dry the affected area afterwards.

Topical Treatments

There are numerous treatments that you can apply to your hemorrhoids to reduce pain and swelling. Preparation H is probably best known, although diaper rash cream, topical pain relievers and hydrocortisone-containing creams may also help. If you want to try a natural remedy, you can apply aloe vera to hemorrhoids. But if you buy it as a gel or cream, make sure it is not mixed with other ingredients.

Use Epsom salt and glycerin paste

One of the least known remedies, this paste can help reduce inflammation and pain. Simply mix two tablespoons of Epsom salt with two tablespoons of glycerin and place the resulting paste in gauze. Apply the pad to your hemorrhoid and leave it there for fifteen or twenty minutes. Reapply every 4-6 hours.

Eat more fiber, drink more water

Increasing the intake of high fiber foods will help soften the poos and make your digestive system work more efficiently. Green leafy vegetables, nuts, whole grains and fiber-containing supplements can help. But you should add additional fiber to your diet gradually, as too fast it can cause gas and bloating.

Making sure you are well hydrated is also important to help soften your poop and make your life easier in general. Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to make sure your body works as it should.

Sit on a donut pillow

These specially designed pillows help reduce pressure on hemorrhoids, which will reduce pain and swelling if your work or lifestyle requires you to spend a lot of time sitting. If you don't have a donut pillow on hand, at least make sure the place you are sitting is well padded, as hard surfaces can make your symptoms worse. But if possible, take your pillow wherever you go until the hemorrhoids recede.

Avoid ‘Rhoids

There you have it: our main advice on how to get rid of hemorrhoids quickly. They should disappear within a few days, especially if you keep the area clean and treat it with care and care. Over-the-counter pain relievers can also be a blessing, especially anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen. But if your symptoms get worse, you should talk to your doctor, as it could be a sign of something worse.
