Toxic Skincare Ingredients You Should Avoid

We take care of our skin by using products skin care. The skin absorbs what we put into it and you should be careful what you put on your skin. The following skin care toxic ingredients should be avoided by choosing beauty products.

sodium lauryl sulfate

This is mostly found in shampoo, bath gel, cleaner, and mascara. This causes and contributes to the disruption of the natural balance of the skin. It is also known to be an irritant to the eyes and lungs. Skin irritation can cause eczema, dry, rough, or redness of the skin, this occurs when used frequently or at high concentrations.

Parabens

Often used as a preservative in many cosmetic products. Prevents mold, parasites and fungi grow on products. It can be absorbed through the skin and has the properties that mimic, which is associated with increased risk of breast cancer estrogen. Paraben has been identified in biopsy samples of breast tumors. Although the study is not conclusive yet it is one thing to worry about. Here are other forms of paraben derivatives or to consider.

The retinyl palmitate, retinol

This is often found in anti-aging products and can be carcinogenic when used in sunlight. Sunscreens containing retinol should be avoided. Retinol, like all derivatives of vitamin A, is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. This includes all products skin care, even serums and night creams containing retinol.

Oxybenzone

This is often found in sunscreens, moisturizers and lip gloss. It has been linked to skin irritation and allergies. It can cause endometriosis and may pose a risk to the reproductive systems. Oxybenzone has been linked to early puberty in girls, low sperm count and male infertility. An increase in hormone-related cancers in men and women has also been linked to the use of this chemical.

hydroquinone

This chemical melanin in the skin to get rid of dark marks is reduced. According to the FDA the use of this chemical can cause a skin disease called ochronosis. Although not common, especially with preparations over-the-counter strength, some people have developed a blue-black discoloration of the skin after using bleaching cream hydroquinone. Ochronosis can also cause patches of gray-brown and tiny bumps, yellow to brown, as well as thickening of the skin. Hydroquinone was once considered a miracle ingredient for skin lightening and whitening the skin and makes it stays that way. It is still used in many bleaching creams and other skin whitening products, but new studies have shown that it is a dangerous toxin. Because of the health risks associated with its use, it has been banned in many countries.

phthalate

The most common phthalates in cosmetics and personal care products are dibutyl phthalate is in nail polish, diethyl phthalate found in perfumes and lotions, and dimethyl phthalate are in hairspray. They are known to be endocrine disruptors. Phthalates have been linked to an increased risk of breast cancer, and birth defects in reproductive males and females.

formaldehyde

This was declared to be carcinogenic to humans by International Agency for Research on Cancer . Other common side effects of formaldehyde in cosmetics are skin irritation, scalp burns and hair loss. This can be found in nail polish formulas keratin hair straightening, eyelash adhesive and hair dyes.

toluene

Toluene is found in nail polish, it is used to help it slide more smoothly. According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry toluene may have an effect on the (brain and nerves) nervous system. effects on the nervous system may be temporary, such as headaches, dizziness or loss of consciousness. However, effects such as lack of coordination, cognitive impairment, and vision and hearing loss can become permanent with repeated exposure, especially at high concentration. High levels of exposure to toluene during pregnancy, such as those related to solvent abuse can lead to delayed mental capacity and growth in children. Other health effects of potential concern may include immune, kidney, liver and reproductive problems
