Doctors and naturopaths often recommend turmeric as a way to help reduce inflammation in the body. Thousands of studies have shown its benefits in promoting heart health, mental health, reducing inflammation and ensuring balanced blood sugar.
I love to add turmeric to the skin exfoliants and other beauty recipes. I also put in many of my homemade mixes and spices add to many recipes.
Unfortunately, many of the foods I love the addition of turmeric, such as soups and stews, are not good summer recipes. I find it difficult to consume food and drinks with turmeric in the warmer months.
My favorite recipe of all time turmeric is turmeric tea (also called milk gold). I make that hot and salty drink with coconut milk and other spices and love in the coldest months.
Unfortunately, when the outside temperature starts to hit more than 90 degrees, hot drinks lose some of its appeal. I have been experimenting with ways to use turmeric in food and cold drinks and get some recipes we love.
This frozen lemonade Turmeric is a delicious summer favorite for our family as I’ve been doing often for children while they are playing outside. It is very easy to make and tastes great!
The earthy flavor of turmeric provides a lovely color but is hidden mostly by the tang of lemon. Personally, I like to use liquid stevia to sweeten this, although any natural sweetener work.
The frozen lemonade recipe turmeric
refreshing frozen lemonade turmeric combines the earthy and bright with fresh lemon and turmeric natural sweetness for a delicious summer drink.
Serves: 4 cups
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
• 2 cups water
• 1.5 cup of ice
• ½ cup fresh lemon juice (or more to taste about 2-3 lemons)
• 1-2 teaspoons of turmeric powder
• ½ teaspoon drops of stevia (or more to taste) – you can substitute another natural sweetener but will have to add more
• pinch black pepper tiny ( increases the benefits of turmeric)
1. Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender and mix for 60 seconds or until the ice is completely mixed in.
2. Let stand for about 30 seconds before pouring. Pour into glasses to serve. I prefer to serve over more ice.
3. Consume immediately.
If you are not using it all at once, making smaller batches by reducing the recipe in half or quarters. I prefer to use stevia to keep the sugar content down, but any natural sweetener like maple syrup or honey will work well in this recipe. You can also do this with the lemon juice (same amount as lemon juice) or orange juice (twice the juice and reduce water ½ cup)
