Russia has announced a game-changing move in the fight against genetically modified Monsanto, which completely prohibits the use of genetically modified ingredients in any and all food production.

In other words, Russia has just burned way beyond the issue of labeling of GMOs and stop the use of any and all GMOs that have entered otherwise the food supply through creation of packaged foods (and cultivation of GM crops).

“As for genetically modified organisms is concerned, have made decision not to use any GMO in food productions,” Deputy PM Arkady Dvorkovich revealed during an international conference on biotechnology.

This is a bold move by the Russian government, which is seated in unison with the global debate on recently on GMOs and Monsanto’s presence in the food supply. It also follows from the judgment highly debated by the World Health Organization that Roundup glyphosate Monsanto is a “probable carcinogen.”

But I want to put it in perspective for you. If this announcement was made in the United States, for example, it would mean a total transformation of the food manufacturing industry. But in Russia, the integration of GMOs is not near the same level as in the US

We know that in the United States, more than 90 percent of staple crops such as genetically modified maize, with 94 percent of soybeans and 94 percent cotton. The ban of GMOs in food production could radically change the entire food supply. In Russia, however, the country is much better prepared for a revolution of genetically modified foods. [1]

As RT Reports:

“According to official statistics the proportion of GMOs in the food industry in Russia has decreased from 12 percent to just 0.01 percent over the past 10 years and currently there are only 57 food products registered containing GMOs in the country. the condition for state registration of order law GMO products that can contact with the environment enter into force in mid 2017 “.

President Vladimir Putin believes he can keep GMOs out of the country, even during your stay in fulfilling the commandments of the World Trade Organization (WTO). In a meeting last against the members of the Board of the Council of the Russian Federation stated:

“We need to properly build our work so that it is not contrary to our obligations in the WTO but. even with this in mind, however, have methods and legitimate tools to protect our own market, and above all citizens. “

do you think we will never see something like this is in the United States? Let us know in the comments below.
