Never Recycle These 11 Things

Many people would be surprised to know that sometimes their entire load of curbside recycling is thrown directly to a landfill.

Although recycling programs vary in different areas, most programs follow a similar system sidewalks; recycling is collected and taken to a sorting center, where the materials, then the materials are sold to different companies that manufacture products from recycled materials are separated.

When people do not recyclable items are placed in their recycling bins, maintaining this system as efficient as possible. non-recyclable items can contaminate other recyclables, slow down the process and even damage machines. In order to keep the system running efficiently, sorting facilities deems entire recycling bins trash as if there are not recyclable with them.

This means that all plastic, glass and paper assumed it would be used to make recycled products that really is sitting in a landfill, the release of toxic chemicals into the ecosystem and find their way into the digestive systems of birds and other wildlife .

In order to make it easier to avoid this, we have prepared a list of 11 items that should never be recycled.

1. paper towels and tissues

While these products are made of paper and technically recyclable, are too small to be sorted into recycling facilities. towels and tissues are also often covered in fat, food or things that coughed them. As can contaminate other recyclables, all the trash could get sent to a landfill instead.

2. Plastic bags

Plastic bags are technically recyclable, but is unlikely to be accepted through its recycling program. Do you know how you always see plastic bags stuck in trees? There is something about a plastic bag that makes it easy for them to get stuck places, and wreak havoc on machines in marshalling is formed.

marshalling is not carrying plastic bags open with recyclable materials inside. So every time that has enveloped recyclable items and put them in a recycling bin, you really just threw in a landfill. Remember: t hese are recyclable bags, which only require a different system. A list of places of delivery of luggage-off plastic can be found here .

3. The crushed paper

Like towels and tissues, such paper is too small to be handled in marshalling. When the role in decreasing the degree and quality is comminuted, which means many facilities will not accept. The best way to avoid getting shredded paper in a landfill is simply not tear it apart. Today the destruction of documents does not serve much of a purpose anyway; whatever the shadow accounting or money laundering scheme they have going online is probably detectable, which could also keep intact documents. Just kidding, but please do not make the paper shredder.

4. pizza boxes (sometimes)

Sometimes pizza boxes are very good to put in the recycle bin, but other times it can contaminate other recyclables and send everything to a landfill. If there is food still stuck to any part of the pizza box it could be labeled as trash in the sorting. Be sure to suck all the fat processed cheese or cardboard before throwing them away.

5. Styrofoam

Styrofoam is actually a Greek word meaning “terrible idea.” Okay, that’s not true, but it might as well be. Experts believe that the Styrofoam could have a million years to decompose (if it does at all). Very rarely is accepted through curbside programs, but a list of delivery sites can be found here .

6. clothes hangers

Most recycling programs do not accept clothes hangers, but you know they do ? Dry cleaner! Perches are like a kind of strange form of currency for them. It is estimated that only 15 percent of clothes hangers are increasingly recycled, more unnecessary plastic and metal that ends up in landfills.

7. Food containers

The food container is more likely recyclable, depending on the material, but only if there is no food in she. Containers should not be sparkling clean when you throw them away, but all the food needs to be removed, including those gobs of almond butter, never want to leave the side of the jar.

8. The different types of glass

Not all types of glass is the same and different require different processing. Glass used to make windows, glasses and mirrors are treated with chemicals that change their melting temperature. This type of glass can cause damage to machines in recycling facilities, and unfortunately, there are very few options for recycling. A good option would be to try to re-use them in the best possible way. The broken glass are not accepted at recycling facilities because it could injure workers.

9. efficient light bulbs

The energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) contain a small amount of mercury, so special care needs to be taken to ensure they do not end up in a landfill. Mercury can pose a danger to the health of people and wildlife. The increasing number of CFL bulbs find their way into landfills is alarming many people; seven states have now made it illegal to dispose of these bulbs in a landfill.

The surest way to ensure that your old CFLs do not end up in a landfill is to take them to any great store home improvement, such as Lowe’s or Home Depot, and they often have CFL recycling programs.

10. Plastic toys

child’s plastic toys often contain many different materials separation and recycling them is often impossible. Fortunately, in most cases, there is no need to recycle these toys because they can be reused for several generations, provided future generations are still very much in the Ninja Turtles. The Salvation Army and Goodwill will accept donations of toys and normally toy stores have a bucket donation is in the place well.

11. The coffee cups

Many of you will be surprised to learn that in most cases, your cup coffee available is non-recyclable . Most coffee cups contain a waxy coating that prevents the cup to get soaked, but this makes it very difficult for the paper that is extracted from the wax. Starbucks is currently in trials using 100 percent recyclable coffee cups.
