MY HOUSE AMISH: It's time to get rid of fallen and frozen foliage

"For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout, and the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God: and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who live and remain will be caught up together with them. clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore, comfort each other with these words. " – 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17, 18

It is November and we have delayed our watches one hour. My internal clock has difficulty adapting. Although, apparently, I wake up an hour later, my body still wants to go to bed at 7 p.m. This darkness so early it takes me a while to get used to it. But at least the last few days have been really nice and sunny.

The snow and cold wind we had last week were enough for me. I was, like, pretty good now, I'm ready for spring. But be better and I will try to do better. I am really working on my attitude.

MY HOUSE AMISH: Give up clothes now

I was very happy Saturday was so soft and sunny. Mrs. Adlai Helmuth's funeral was on Saturday. I think it's much more comforting if the sun shines.

Husband Erwin has worked for the Helmuths for 23 years. It will be different not to have Edna nearby. She will be missed.

The funeral sermon was very interesting and stimulating. One thing I really liked was when the minister talked about the mother in the home and how apparently she is the focal point in the home. Parents are also very important, but for a child, when they get home from school or whatever, the question is: "Where is mom?" Well, she can be in the garden or anywhere. "What do you want?" "Oh nothing". They just want the comfort of knowing that mom is there.

And for me, Sunday morning, I was the girl, I didn't ask for mom but I called God.

When I went to homework and left our horse in the barn, I saw that his snap was broken. I did not think much. He went to his manger and began to eat. I approached a wall where several halters hung and to my dismay, the pins had broken. Suddenly I heard this commotion behind me. Diamond was spinning, shaking my head and it really scared me. When he put his head in the manger and climbed back up, the broken click caught in the knot of the rope. He could not lift his head much and panicked. He kept pulling and I couldn't let go. When I tried to make him loose, he just pulled harder. By then I was in total panic and shivering as if everything came out. If my teeth had been dentures, I'm pretty sure they would have blown away. What will I do? Ok God, can you help me? And you know what? I reached out to grab Diamond's head, lowered it, disengaged the click and praised the Lord. He was free.

I don't know how many times during the day I thanked God.

Yesterday, Monday, it was another good day, even if it was windy. I, of course, had to do the laundry but no problem. I just hung things under the roof on the south side. So nice. I don't know why we didn't do it from the beginning. Today I washed my clothes again just because it's a good day and I could.

Yesterday I cleaned the flower beds, got rid of the fallen and frozen foliage and dug my flower bulbs. The point is that, when it's too cold to leave them in the shed, what will I do with them? Oh well, I'll find a place somewhere.

Before I forget, in my column on October 25/30, the recipe for easy cinnamon bread was contained in the ingredients for two teaspoons of baking powder. It should have been baking soda. I'm sorry about that. I hope I haven't caused any baking disaster through that.

Finally: what you expect to be tomorrow depends on the choices you make today.

Would you like a totally different accompaniment to serve in your next meal? Try this hot pineapple garnish.

Hot Pineapple Garnish

1-20 ounces can pineapple chunks or chips, without draining

1/2 cup of sugar

3 tablespoons flour

1/2 cup melted butter

1-1 / 2 cups grated cheese, divided

2 cups crushed Ritz cookies

Drain the pineapple juice and reserve 1/4 cup. Combine sugar, flour and a cup of cheese. Cover the bottom of a baking dish with pineapple. Place the mixture of sugar, flour and cheese on the pineapple. Spread the crushed Ritz biscuits over the mixture and sprinkle the melted butter and 1/4 of reserved juice on everything. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese on top.
