Monsanto’s Glyphosate Poisoning Lake Erie, Causing Toxic Algae Blooms Responsible For Killing Fish

Mention the name “Monsanto” and you are sure to get an increase of almost everyone in this days. This giant biotechnology company has made the list of “most hated companies” more than once.

In 2011, the Company declared Natural Monsanto as the worst company of the year in terms of its growing reputation for not only threaten human and animal health but also the environment as a whole.

Monsanto is the leader in genetically modified seeds and crops, and is currently responsible for a whopping 90 percent of all GM seeds in the United States. This company monster is also the manufacturer of the deadly herbicide Roundup, which is responsible, among other atrocities, for the creation of more than 120 million hectares of herbicide-resistant “super-weeds.” ( 1 )

In 2014, a Neilson survey revealed that “disreputable” Monsanto continues to grow out of control, (like its herbicide-resistant super-weeds), the classification of this billion supergiant “third worst” among the 60 of the highest profile companies in the world.

While coming third in the world could be an achievement to boast in any other case, the ranking of Monsanto puts just behind BP oil giant responsible for the worst oil spill in US history and Bank of America, key player in the financial market crisis of 2008.

despite knowledge of its devastating Monsanto harmful products and the growing public outrage, challenging giant biotechnology continues to spread its modified crops and deadly poisons that put all living organisms on this planet in danger. And his guilt in the destruction of our planet is nothing new.

In 1929, Swann Corporation, which eventually merged with Monsanto, began manufacturing PCBs for commercial use.

Today, to put the global ramifications of the situation in perspective, we now know that Monsanto has been involved directly and / or indirectly in the production of, or has licensed production of almost all carcinogenic polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) in the world!

It is also responsible for the release of 1.2 million tons of these chemicals worldwide. The EPA only has thousands and thousands of records dating back decades of Monsanto, which in some essence, has become the poster child for evil itself. ( 2 )

Monsanto kill our Great Lakes

certainly have heard of the mysterious “algal blooms” which gradually on the Great Lakes North America. In the most recent outbreak of algae bloom, news agencies around the world warned more than 400,000 people in Ohio and Michigan that high phosphorus levels are causing these surprisingly large and aggressive blooms that look like something out of a sci-fi horror.

This thick, toxic mildew is not only contaminating drinking water supplies, but it is killing fish in the devastating numbers. ( 3 ) and does not take a genius to point the finger at the main culprit. In fact, researchers at the University of Ohio Northern (UN) clearly indicate the main cause of the overwhelming and destructive green goop that is having on our lakes and rivers is glyphosate, the key chemical found in Roundup herbicide Monsanto. ( 4 )

chemical lead at the UN, Christopher Spiese essentially revealed that the crops that are able to resist glyphosate (those who are genetically by Monsanto) are all but taking over, “… to the point that we are washed in Roundup.”

Spiese added that “… more than 95 percent of [all] soybeans and more than half of the corn the US is Roundup Ready, and these percentages have probably not changed in the last 2 years. ” Their study, known as the “Spiese study,” also determined that, “For every acre of Roundup Ready corn and soybeans is planted, it is one lbs third-lowering phosphorus Maumee (river) …”

and this I phosphorus leads to increased number of outbreaks of toxic algae that are literally flooding our lakes and rivers.

A Bleak Future

Every year, literally millions of acres of arable land, state, provincial and / or federal parks as well as commercial and private properties are sprayed with Roundup.

Apart from their proven by the increasing number of outbreaks of toxic algae that are taking over our water systems, researchers have also shown that chemicals in Roundup are actually more lethal part that represented by the manufacturers and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the government agency responsible for keeping us safe.

While regulators openly admit specific chemicals are toxic in themselves, which do not adequately represent is that together, as in a product like Roundup, these chemicals can be many times more damaging than any single substance chemistry.

For example, each product contains adjuvants, which are pharmacological or immunological agents that modify the effect of other agents on the product. Usually, these adjuvants are not reported and are kept confidential because they are considered “inert” by the manufacturer. When a product is tested for its potential risk, generally only the main chemical was tested. ( 5 ) As you can imagine, this does not give a true picture of the actual power of any full product.

A study published in 2014 BioMed Research International looked 9 different pesticides. Of these 9, the Roundup was considered one of the most toxic tested. In addition, the researchers found, 8 of the 9 formulations were found to be up to 1,000 times more toxic than its active principles alone. ( 6 )

What this means is that if a product like Roundup is already considered unsafe or even “slightly toxic”, can be sure that it is actually at least 1,000 times more dangerous than it is being led to believe.

The real danger

toxic algal blooms are only a small part of the true risk caused by these pesticides. Glyphosate is linked to chronic numerous diseases and conditions in humans, including autism, allergies, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease, chronic diarrhea, colitis and Crohn’s disease and heart disease, fertility problems, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, depression and obesity just to name a few of the growing number of health problems is believed to be the direct or indirect result of this toxic chemical. ( 7 )

Another study published in the journal Entropy reveals how residue glyphosate, which is essentially any food we eat contains genetically modified sugar, corn, soybean and / or wheat, increases the harmful effects of other chemicals and toxins in our environment.

Ultimately, prolonged exposure interferes with normal body functions and leads to disease. ( 8 ) What researchers found is that their intestinal bacteria are actually the key to how glyphosate wreaks havoc on your body.

Monsanto and his team of researchers and highly paid lawyers continue to claim that Roundup is “harmless to animals and humans.” And based this theory on the fact that Roundup uses a specific pathway, called the shikimate pathway, to kill weeds and insects.

claim that humans and animals have this “way” and as such, can not be damaged by chemicals. What Monsanto will not say, however, it is that bacteria have a shikimate pathway. And guess what? His body is full of bacteria.

In fact, the bacteria in your body outnumber cells by 10 to 1, meaning that for every cell in your body, there are 10 microbes with a shikimate pathway that may be affected by glyphosate , similarly affecting weeds and pests that is designed to kill. ( 9 10 )

How to protect

With the avalanche of negative studies linking glyphosate to the proliferation of toxic algae, a joint agreement by the governments of the US and Canada it was made in 2015 to seek a reduction of 40 percent in the contribution of phosphorus in sections of lake Erie that are most affected by chemicals and resulting proliferation of algae in the year 2025. ( 11 )

While reducing these toxic chemicals will certainly help to reduce the amount of toxins that find their way into your body, 10 years is a long time to wait . In the meantime, there are many private groups, groups of farmers and even groups of high-profile Greenpeace seeking legal action against Monsanto, but until Monsanto officially stopped, you can be sure it will continue selling their toxic chemicals and GE seeds.

The only way to protect yourself is to limit the use of commercial pesticides or herbicides. When it comes to chemicals in general, it is always best to limit your exposure to them.

Many natural alternatives are not only safe but effective and, in some cases more effective. When it comes to the food you eat, until the US government required all genetically modified (GM) foods be labeled as such, the only way you can be sure you’re not getting these “Frankenstein foods “it is to buy and eat as much organic food as possible.

Make sure it is certified organic. Foods that claim to be “natural” are not organic. Corn, for example, is “all natural”, but as you know, more than half of all corn in the US is GE. Therefore, look for organic certification.

should also avoid all soy products and soy is also designed mostly. Look for meat that is grass-fed or grazing to ensure that animals do not eat GE corn or soy.

By making these changes, you can limit the number of toxins you eat or come into contact with, and in doing so, gives your body a fighting chance.
