In order to reduce the costs incurred by the common in the treatment of cancer and heart disease patients, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, JP Nadda opened three affordable medicines and reliable implants for shots of treatment (Amrit) located in regional Institute North Eastern Indira Gandhi of Health and medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong, the regional Institute of medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal and All India Institute medical sciences (AIIMS ), Jodhpur via videoconference on 17 August 2016. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (MOS) (Independent charge) for Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region , Prime Minister’s Office, Personal, Grievances and Pensions , Department of Atomic Energy Department of space were also present during the videoconference.
“Now we have 12 outlets nationwide Amrit. More than 2141 drugs (including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, stents, etc.) for the treatment of cancer and cardiovascular disease through AMRIT are selling at a discount of more than 70% of patients, “said Health Minister. Nadda also indicated that the benefits of Amrit clinics can be used by both outpatient and outpatient. He added also that around 300 outlets will be launched later this year and basket medication options will also be further improved.
Nadda reported that Amrit clinics have sold drugs worth Rs. 28 Crores as MRP. However, costs for patients through these outlets have been only Rs 9 crores. This has resulted in savings of Rs. 19.00 Crores out of pocket expenses for patients.
“We are exploring the possibility of expanding the facility and to make it accessible to a greater number of people in various parts of the country. The state governments have been informed of the Amrit pharmacies and has been advised consider opening these pharmacies, “Minister of Health, he said.
Jitendra Singh said that this initiative will be a big boost for health care in the region. Not only it will go a long way in providing cost-effective medicines to the lower strata of society, but through this, will also have a health system that will be more trustworthy.
