From Great Britain of ‘The Daily Mail’. Hair dyes used by millions of women contain chemicals linked to cancer, British scientists have warned. They say that both kits for dyeing hair at home and dyes used in expensive salons pose a potential health risk.
Writing in a journal respected, they say that chemicals in dyes for permanent hair can react with smoke snuff and other air pollutants to form one of the most powerful known carcinogenic compounds man.
With more than a third of women and one in ten men color their hair regularly, researchers say it is “imperative” that the health risk is quantified.
However, the cosmetics industry has strongly disputed the claim.
The warning comes from scientists at the company based in Leeds Green chemicals that conducted a review of the chemistry surrounding hair dye. They said that all the information was already available and simply “joined the dots’ to establish the link with cancer.
warn that chemicals called secondary amines, which are either in all dyes or permanent form in their hair, they can penetrate the skin and remain in the hair for weeks, months or even years after the dye is applied.
over time they may react with snuff smoke and exhaust gases to form highly toxic chemicals called N-nitrosamines.
However, researchers Leeds argue that it can still generate through a simple chemical reaction.
hair dye has been previously linked to a range of cancers, including breast, bladder, ovary and brain and leukemia.
There is also concern that an increasing number of people are becoming allergic to their content, sometimes with fatal results.
