Grow a Mulberry Tree In Your Yard

There are two assortments of mulberry that are local to the US mulberry tree. Red and mulberry Texas. white mulberry was made foreign China. mulberry plants come in all different forms, sizes and colors. Of the three assortments specified, mulberry plants are really brambles Texas.

Fruits

The flowers are pollinated by the wind and begin to gain weight and change from green to white to red to a very dark, almost black, producing a blood-red juice. Blackberries are delicious, but rare in grocery stores because of its sensitive nature.

Seeding

It is important to consider a few things when deciding where to place your mulberry tree. The red mulberry is a very fast growing tree that is very large. It also gets almost as wide as it does high. Unless you choose to do major pruning, the tree will have a big piece of grass.

mulberry trees enjoy full sun so be sure to plant it in an area that is not shaded by trees or structures.

mulberry trees grow in zone 7 and higher. They tolerate drought and poor soil, but better produced with good irrigation and a nice deep marl. The soil must be well drained to prevent root rot.

Mulberry produce fruit when it is very young and continue to increase yields of many years. If it gets too dry, the fruit will be good. Feeding your tree of a 5-8-5 fertilizer 3 times a year will give a healthy performance.

If you decide to prune, do so when the tree is dormant. Remember, heavy pruning will reduce the fruit of that year.

Propagation

mulberry trees grow well from cuttings. Cut a fresh twig, dip in rooting hormone and put it on the ground to cool and wet pots. Keep it moist for a couple of months and when the new leaves start to come out, you know that the roots are starting to grow too.

Pest

This fruit is a favorite among squirrels and birds, but the only other pests that come in around caterpillars. There are very few diseases that afflict the mulberry tree.
