Florida Dad Invents Product To Minimize Risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS)

After becoming a father, a Florida man has created a new bed safety babies can significantly reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in newborns.

The Kickstarter campaign has been so popular that generated more than $ 100,000 in just two days despite having a goal of $ 30,000 and 30-day timeline ( 1 ) .

The product, which looks like a hammock mesh is secured in a manger “, holds her baby naturally, no complicated mechanics, only an ergonomic design that mimics naturally embrace. ”

James Spencer, who has a newborn 22 days old, said he created the product because it was losing sleep about the health of his daughter at night. “By designing a child’s bed eliminating avoidable risks associated with early childhood sleep easier,” he said ( 2 ).

Each year in the United States, there are approximately 3,500 children unexpected sudden deaths (SUID) of SIDS and accidental suffocation ( 3 ).

Although the rate of SIDS has dropped dramatically since 1990, from 130.3 deaths per 100,000 to 38.7 deaths in 2014, rates of accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed still remain the same.

SIDS is largely influenced by the sleep environment. For example, babies who sleep face down or side will have more difficulty breathing than when placed on the back. fluffy duvets, blankets and mattress pads can also block the child’s airway during sleep. Parents who sleep with newborns also multiply the risk of suffocation and rolled or pushed into small spaces ( 4 ).

Spencer product, called “Crescent Moon” improves sleep environment of newborns, providing a transition between the uterus and the world’s children.

The lightweight fabric is intended to “support the baby naturally in the” fetal-fetal tuck position “o”, “which is the natural position for newborn babies.” This is also compatible with the “Curve C” spine of a baby, which is forced into an unnatural position when the child sleeps on a flat surface.

It even reduces the risk of flat head (plagiocephaly) relieves syndrome and startle reflex of newborns and improve your sleep and helps parents more sleep too. It also prevents children from moving to one side or upside down and provides ample airflow to prevent overheating.

In addition, the product aims to help in the following ways:

  • allows babies to breathe better and get more oxygen for the development of vital organs. easy breathing and oxygen promote child growth by releasing calories and energy that can be used for development.
  • accelerates muscle development, but also accelerates the development of nerve cells that control muscles.
  • leads to rapidly develop motor skills.
  • it aids digestion and prevents reflux.
  • contributes to the development of hip and prevents hip dysplasia.

The product has been tested and meets the standards of the US consumer Product Safety Commission. Since SIDS can occur at any time during the first year of a baby “Crescent Moon” should be used as soon as your child comes home ( 5 ).
