DEA Approves First Ever Marijuana Drug Trial For PTSD In Veterans

for the first time in history, a US drug regulatory agency It has approved a controlled randomized trial of whole plant medical marijuana as a treatment for PTSD in veterans.

With the approval of the test, the DEA has agreed to allow the testing and development of botanical smoked marijuana in a legal prescription drug for the disorder, post-traumatic stress.

The trial will involve 76 veterans with treatment-resistant PTSD and be carried out by the organization MAPS nonprofit organization that has been working to get this test approved for 6 years. The group will gather data on safety and efficacy in four different potencies of smoked marijuana with different proportions of THC and CBD.

The test results include concrete data on marijuana dosage, side effects, and composition that will serve as an informative guide for doctors regarding it as the treatment and political considering what it is legal.

This study is critical in moving our development program forward botanical drugs at the federal level to gather information on dosing step, the risks and benefits of smoked marijuana for symptoms of PTSD.

Although the study will be funded by the Department of Public Health and Environment Colorado in the amount of $ 2,156 million , the study will be conducted in several states different. Half of the subjects will be treated in Phoenix, AZ and the other half will be tested in Baltimore, MD, with blood tests that took place in Boulder, CO.

Marijuana as treatment has been controversial because of its inclusion as a Schedule I drug and lack of research available to support claims of effectiveness. MAPS hopes to close the gap between the witness and test its capabilities of users.

This step is exciting, but those who want to see the results might have to wait several years until the results are published. It is estimated that the results will be revealed in 2019 .
