Causes, Symptoms and Home Remedies for Goiter (Goitre)
A goiter is an enlarged thyroid gland and may result from a variety of causes. It is more common in women and older adults.
Types of goiter:
- Uniform (diffuse goiter)
- tumor (nodular goiter)
Some of the common causes:
- solitary nodule
- Hashimoto’s disease, autoimmune disease; common cause of underactive thyroid
- multinodular goiter; nodules develop more on both sides of the thyroid
- Thyroid cancer; less common than benign nodules
- Pregnancy; HCG hormone can cause enlargement
- Graves disease, autoimmune disease; common cause of underactive thyroid
- inflammation
- Iodine deficiency
Common symptoms:
- Cough
- Tightness in the throat
- Swelling at the base of the neck
- The difficulty swallowing, breathing
List of home remedies:
dandelion leaves: Take handful of dandelion leaves and add some ghee. Warm them up for a couple of minutes and then apply the mixture directly in the goiter. Leave it on for about 15 minutes and then wash it off.
Linseed: grind some flax seeds add a few drops of water to make a paste and apply on the affected area. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then wash it off. Flax seeds are trying very emotional goiter.
Barley water: Drink at least one glass of barley water to relieve symptoms of goiter. Barley has many health benefits including this one.
Cold Water Bath: Take a bath of cold water 2 times a day. This is the best and one of the easy home remedy to treat goiter.
Pineapple :. Eat pineapples and include in their regular diet
sorrel leaves Take some sorrel leaves and add a few drops of olive oil. Mix to make a paste and apply the paste directly to the affected part of the skin. Leave it alone for 10 to 15 minutes before washing.
Garlic: Chew 3-4 cloves of garlic a day in the morning

Green Tea: consume 2 to 3 cups of green tea a day to cure goiter. Green tea is also greatly affected in preventing recurrence.
Melisa tea: consume 2 to 3 cups of tea a day lemon balm to treat goiter completely. You can even drink an infusion of lemon balm to relieve stomach cramps due to stress.
Coconut oil: The daily consumption of coconut oil is very beneficial so include it in your daily diet. Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a nutrient that is compatible with the body’s immune system.
Bentonite: Make bentonite clay paste, adding a little water to it and simply apply this paste on the neck. Leave it alone until it dries before rinse.
