Bed bug symptoms: how to know for sure that you have an infestation and how to get rid of them

Bed bugs are blood sucking pests with shocking reproductive abilities and mutated characteristics that will make any person's skin bristle. Bed bugs feed on cats, dogs, other pets and humans and are immune to pesticides. This immunity to pesticides has caused their numbers to increase and pest outbreaks become more frequent in cities around the world.

The Environmental Protection Agency said: "The common bed bug has long been a plague: it feeds on blood, causes itchy bites and generally irritates its human hosts."

They are small, oval, brown insects and have flat bodies the size of an apple seed.

Bed bugs can enter the house undetected through used luggage, clothes, beds and sofas and other items. Due to their shape, they can fit in small spaces, so it is impossible to find them.

Bed bugs are active mainly at night and usually bite people while they sleep. Bed bugs feed by piercing the skin and drawing blood through an elongated beak.

The bites are initially painless, but then turn into itchy hives.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said: "Many people have mild to severe allergic reactions to bites with effects ranging from no reaction to a small bite mark to, in rare cases, anaphylaxis."

Main symptoms of bed bugs

If a person wakes up with itchy areas that he did not have when he went to sleep, It can mean bed bugs, particularly if they have a used bed or other used furniture.

Other signs of bed bugs include seeing on sheets or pillowcases, dark or rusty stains of bed bug droppings on sheets, mattresses, and walls, focal points of bed bugs, eggshells or shed skin in areas where bed bugs hide or an unpleasant and stale smell that comes from the insect's glands.

How to get rid of them

If a person suspects that they may have an infestation, they should remove all bedding and carefully check for signs of insects or their droppings.

Remove the dust covers over the bottom of the box springs and examine the seams in wooden frames.

Peel off the fabric where it could be stapled to the wooden frame.

The bed should also be checked, including the edge of the carpet, around tables and even in electrical outlets.
