A Nutritionist Tells You How To Check If Your Food Is Adulterated (Part II)

food adulteration is one among the most important points of contact for consumers across India, with cases of adulteration affecting almost every product, from pre-packaged milk for dals and coffee powder. Adulteration is occasionally unintentionally, however, is usually a purpose and often risky. Mustard Seeds

Black pepper seeds are sometimes mixed with papaya seeds as they are not easy to discern. To test them, you can drop a few seeds in alcohol; while pepper seeds sink to the bottom, papaya seeds will float to the top.

No matter how much you may love the chicory, which certainly don ‘t want that in your coffee powder . Unfortunately, that is precisely what you could get with adulterated coffee. To test the coffee powder, sprinkle some dust on the water in a glass. While the coffee floats on the surface, chicory begins to sink quickly leaving a trail of color behind.

Cooking Oil

Cooking oil and coconut oil is sometimes adulterated by mixing with other liquids and oils, including those that are not intended for consumption. While this may not be a foolproof test, oil cooling can greatly help in detecting impurities. Sugar and salt

chalk powder is toxic if ingested, due to high ammonia content, but this is precisely what used to adulterate white sugar and salt to test the level of sugar or salt, mix some of it in a glass of water .; sugar and salt dissolves quickly, but chalk dust settles on the bottom. Water may also have an unpleasant odor, which is ammonia.
